MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-seven startups in Western Visayas took part in a boot camp that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently launched. The initiative is intended to enhance their business skills and network-building.
In a statement on Friday, the DTI said its Moonshot TNK ASPIRE Startup Bootcamp enlisted 71 entrepreneurs from 37 early-stage startups. They are engaged in the manufacturing, information and communication, agriculture and service sectors.
Through this initiative, participating startups are equipped with the business tools and networks needed to help them achieve investment and market success.
“Under the leadership of President Marcos Jr., we are committed to a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ that uplifts every Filipino, no matter where they are in the country,” Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said.

“By investing in our regional startups, we are diversifying our economic base and creating new engines of growth in every province to ensure our progress is resilient and sustainable for years to come,” added Roque.
Curriculum for startups
The curriculum covers different topics essential to running a business. They include business identity and team building, design thinking and business model canvas. Also included are digital marketing and operations, startup finance and pitching and presentation.
It is aligned with the Innovative Startup Act. The law aims to strengthen, promote and develop startups through various programs, benefits and incentives.

Boot camp graduates will be given the opportunity to join the Moonshot TNK MentorMatch Pitching Competition. This is to help them attract potential investors.
This program is open to Filipino entrepreneurs aged 18 and older. They must be in the initial stages of their business, from prototype to minimum viable product.

Roque said the boot camp is a direct response to a directive from President Marcos. He wants to empower local economies and drive inclusive growth. /rwd
